Jason Elliott

Jason Elliott begins his 23rd season as the head men's soccer coach at Freed-Hardeman University in 2023.

Elliott has been a part of the men's soccer program since it was instituted in 2000. He was a player on the inaugural team and scored the first goal in school history on Sept. 16, 2000, against Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University. The year after, he succeeded Chuck Begnaud as the head coach of both programs.

This past season, Elliott led the Lady Lions to an 8-9-1 record. As the No. 8 seed, the Lady Lions knocked off the top-seeded Missouri Baptist Spartans in the opening round of the AMC Tournament 2-0 but fell to William Woods in the semifinals 5-4 in penalties. The Lady Lions were also well represented on the AMC Academic All-Conference Team, with 12 having at least a 3.0 GPA. The Lady Lions also earned the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the season, after the team as a whole had a cumulative GPA of 3.53.

The Lion and Lady Lion programs emphasize more than success on the field. Since 2001, the programs have boasted a combined 146 Scholar Athletes and 41 NAIA Scholar-Athletes and have routinely posted team GPAs of 3.0 or higher.

Elliott is also the director of the summer soccer camps that have grown each year since they started. The camps are known for developing players and emphasizing the role of sports in the athletes’ lives.

Elliott holds the advanced national coaching diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association.

A native of McPherson, Kan., Elliott completed his undergraduate work at Freed-Hardeman in 2000 and earned a master's degree in 2001. He is the son of Glen and Colleen Elliott of Greenbrier, Ark., and has a younger sister, Elizabeth, who lives in Kansas City, and an older brother, Benjamin, who passed away in June 2009. He is married to the former Misti Mason and has three children: Amos, Lydia, and Isaiah.
