Lisa Buckley enters her 12th season at the helm of the Milligan program. During Buckley’s tenure as head coach, the Buffaloes have gone 91-84-22 and recorded an Appalachian Athletic Conference championship and a runner-up finish.
Buckley and the Buffaloes achieved two of their finest seasons in 2017 and 2018, finishing with a record of 13-3-3 (8-1-2 AAC) in 2017 before going 11-7-1 (8-4-0 AAC) in 2018. The Buffs battled at the top of the conference for much of these seasons and ended up finishing in the top four in the league both times.
The Buffaloes had a similar story during the 2012 season, battling for the AAC title before finishing third with a 6-2-1 conference record. Milligan ended the season with a 10-7-1 record. In 2011, Milligan narrowly missed a runner-up finish in the AAC conference race before finishing with a 9-6-2 overall record.
The 2010 season saw Milligan go 9-7-3 overall and 5-1 in conference action. The Buffaloes saw their season end in the AAC Championship game as they narrowly fell to Tennessee Wesleyan. Buckley was recognized by her peers as she was named the Conference Coach of the Year at the end of the season.
In Buckley’s first season at the helm, she led the Milligan squad to a 9-7-2 overall mark, and followed that up with an AAC runner-up finish in 2009 with a 7-4-6 overall mark and a 4-1-2 conference record.
Buckley returned to Milligan after graduating in 2004 as a three-year starter for the Buffaloes soccer program. During her time as a player, Milligan captured three straight AAC championships, one Region XII championship and earned a berth in the 2001 NAIA National Championship tournament.
After graduating from Milligan with a degree in human performance and exercise science, Buckley served as an assistant coach for two seasons at Loras (Iowa) College. There, she was part of a string of five straight Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships and five straight berths to the NCAA Division III National Tournament. While she was a member of the Duhawk’s staff, Buckley earned her master’s degree in athletic administration.
In addition, Buckley holds an NSCAA National Diploma. She currently resides in Johnson City, Tennessee.
