Blake New

Blake New enters his 24th season as the head coach of the Oberlin College men’s soccer team in 2023 and he has made the Yeomen consistent contenders in the North Coast Athletic Conference throughout his tenure.


The longest tenured coach at Oberlin, New has led the Yeomen to at least nine wins in six out of the last 13 seasons including a school record 15-4-1 in 2016 that ended in the NCAC Championship match.

2013 Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association (OCSA) Coach of the Year and NSCAA Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year

Defeated SUNY-Oneonta 2-0 in the opening round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament

Mentored an arsenal of All-NCAC and All-Region performers, having a combined 18 All-NCAC selections since 2016

Coached Nick Wertman to NSCAA Third-Team All-American honors

Guided Brandt Rentel to D3Soccer.com Third-Team All-American honors

In 2021, Coach Nic Jandeleit to first-team All-NCAC and Third-Team All-Region

2011 graduate Oliver Miller-Farrell became the Yeomen's all-time career points leader during his final season with 56 points (26 assists and 15 goals) under New's direction. His 26 assists are also best in Oberlin history

Oberlin has consistently been regional ranked throughout New’s tenure and also earned a national ranking during the 2013 season

Coaching tenure began in 1996 as head coach of the women’s soccer team before shifting to the men’s program in 1999

At Cleveland State University, New earned Mid-Continent Conference honors as a goalkeeper in 1988 and served as the Vikings’ team captain in 1989. Cleveland State recorded a 46-28-8 record during New’s playing days, culminating in MCC titles in 1986 and 1988. He still holds the CSU record for career shutouts (29) and ranks in the top ten for career saves (267)

Was drafted by the Cleveland Crunch of the Major Indoor Soccer League and the Canton Invaders of the National Professional Soccer League. He also spent two years as a player-coach for the Cleveland Caps of the USISL

Earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from CSU in 1991 and later earned a master’s degree in education with a concentration in sports management while serving as an assistant coach for the Vikings. He was inducted into the Cleveland State Hall of Fame in 2013.

In the spring of 2009 he was inducted into the North Olmsted High School Athletics Hall of Fame. He led his team to a state championship and perfect 25-0 record in 1985.

David Wilson

After joining the men's soccer staff in the Fall of 2009, David Wilson is entering his 15th season as the assistant coach for Oberlin soccer in 2023.


He graduated from Oberlin College in 2006 with a B.A. in Chemistry. After two and a half years as a chemist at Merck Inc. in Rahway, NJ, he returned to his alma mater.


Wilson is responsible for fitness training as well as playing a role in training management and recruiting.


As a player, Wilson was a four-starter for the Yeomen. He was a co-captain of the 2005 squad which earned the program's first NCAC Tournament appearance by finishing second with a 6-2-1 mark. That squad also was recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America with the Team Academic Award for holding a 3.5 team GPA, highest of any college soccer team in the country that year, regardless of division.


During his career he tallied 23 goals and eight assists while earning All-NCAC accolades as a freshman, sophomore and senior as well as Second-Team All-Region honors as a senior. He was honored as the John N. Stern Scholar-Athlete following his career.
