Gary Warford

Gary Warford is in his 10th season as the head coach of the UPIKE women’s soccer program and his 5tih as at the helm of the men’s soccer program.

He wasted no time logging his first Mid-South Conference win as his Bears topped Georgetown 1-0 on the road in the first conference game of the 2016 season. The win was UPIKE fourth in MSC play since 2013.

Warford, who now holds the school record for both men and women’s soccer programs winningest coach has also played a pivotal role in player development in the region of Eastern Kentucky.

Coach Warford’s primary duties as combined head coach for both programs is to create a positive learning environment for the development of student athletes, recruiting and retention, as well as overall direction of the program. In addition, Warford’s duties include professional staff development and enrichment of his staff which includes his Assistant Coach and two Graduate Assistants.

As an undergrad, Warford played club soccer at Eastern Kentucky University for two seasons before the Colonels offered men’s soccer as a varsity program. In addition to his career at EKU, Warford competed around the world while serving in the Navy.

Warford has been on staff with the University of Kentucky women’s soccer program for its high school team camps and coached alongside staff from various levels, including NCAA Div. I, II, III and NAIA, as well as a staff coach for summer soccer camp at Gardner Webb University.

Warford holds USSF Youth Module, National D and E licenses from the United States Soccer Federation, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Goalkeeper Certification Level I and II, United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Diploma, as well as Futsal Level I and the United Soccer Coaches Sports Psychology and Individual Skills certificate. Warford is CPR/First AidCertified.

Additionally, Warford recently earned his Doctor of Education from Northcentral University with emphasis in Educational/Instructional Leadership.

Dr. Warford is originally from Richmond Kentucky, where he graduated from Madison Central High School as well as Eastern Kentucky University. Warford enjoys sports of all kinds, cycling, spending time with his daughter, and his two cats Lorca and Luna.

Shaun Schetka

Shaun Schetka enters his fifth season as the assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s soccer programs at UPIKE in 2020-21.

Schetka is responsible for planning and executing daily training sessions, developing and tracking individual player progress, developing scouting reports on opponents, recruiting, creating social media content and assisting with the day-to-day operations for both programs.

During his time with both programs, Schetka has helped developthe program’s first two-time Men’s Soccer Mid-South Conference Goalkeeper, Men’s Soccer All-time leading goal scorer along with improving both team’s results on the field. The growth of the programs have also shown off the field, where both teams consistently post high semester grade point averages, place students on the Mid South Academic All-Conference team, and NAIA All-Academic student athletes

Prior to UPIKE, Schetka served as the head women’s soccer coach at Penn State Beaver, helping the team to its most drastic turnaround in program history. During his three years at the helm, the program went from zero wins to ultimately winning the 2015 PSUAC Conference Championship. In 2015, the program set not only a school record for wins and goals scored, but also developed the first USCAA All-Americans in program history.

Under Schetka’s watch, Penn State Beaver had eighteen PSUAC All-Academic selections.

Schetka was named the 2016 Pennsylvania West Competitive Male Youth Coach of the Year and has experience working in the NPSL, serving as the public relations coordinator for the Fort Pitt Regiment for two seasons.

As a player, Schetka had a unique experience. From 2005 to 2009, he played on the United States Men’s Paralympic National Team, competing in 19 games and scoring four goals for his country in international tournaments. He also competed for one season at Southern Vermont College before choosing to focus on academics.

Schetka holds a National B License from the United States Soccer Federation, an Advanced National Diploma, along with the Level 1-2 Goalkeeping Diplomas from the USC.

The New Brighton, Pa., native completed his Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management, along with his Master’s degree in Sport Management with a concentration in Intercollegiate Athletic Administration, from California University of Pennsylvania.
