Tom Lancaster

Tom Lancaster is in his first season at Westcliff University and is delighted to be part of the Westcliff Family.

Tom Lancaster spent 5 seasons as assistant Coach to Martin Mcgrogan at Irvine Valley College. During his time at IVC the team won the OEC League in 2015 and finished runners up in 2016 and 2017.

In 2019 Lancaster led Woodbridge High school to the Pacific Coast League Championship for the first time in 5 years.

He has coached for the Olympic Development Program with the boys 95 age group and won a regional championship in 2012.

Lancaster has also been an assistant coach at Biola University under head coach Bryan Kuderman and at Whittier College under head coach Paul Walmsley.

Growing up in England, Lancaster played Soccer for Lichfield FC in the Midlands Combination League until 2008 when he moved to California.

Since moving to the United States, Lancaster has played for LA Strikers (CSL), OC Crew (UPSL), and was a player-coach for the Irvine Matrix (UPSL).

Lancaster holds a BSc (Hons) from the University of South Wales in Football Coaching, Development and Administration, as well as his UEFA B Coaching License and USSF National C Coaching License and, is currently working towards his Msc in Advanced Performance Football Coaching.

He has been married to his wife April since 2009.

The two live in Irvine with their young children.

Rich Torvik

Richard Torvik is in his first year as the assistant coach at Westcliff University.

He is originally from Norway but has lived in Orange County for the last 6 years. Richard holds a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management from Molde University College in Norway and a master’s degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University, Irvine. He also holds a UEFA B coaching license.

Torvik has coached soccer since he was 18 years old at club, high school and college level. He coached five years at Northwood High School, where the last two were as the head coach.

Last year Richard coached with Tom Lancaster at Woodbridge High School and won the Pacific Coast League Championship.

Torvik spent one year as the Director of Video Analysis at UC Irvine Women’s Soccer. He also spent one season at Bethesda University Men’s Soccer as the Associate Head Coach, where they made the national championship in Florida.

Richard is also currently coaching club soccer at South Slammers FC.

He has been married to his wife Gina since 2014. They live in Rancho Santa Margarita with their dog.

Alex Filipovic

Coach Alex is entering his 1st season as Assistant Coach at Westcliff University. He grew up in Belgrade, Serbia where he played for the Partizan Soccer Academy and the Serbian National Futsal Team. He was drafted by San Diego Sockers in 1987 with who he was a part of 2 National Championships. Honor as one of the San Diego Sockers Legends.

Coach Alex has over 30 years of experience coaching youth soccer and 10 years of coaching High School Soccer. He coached Laguna Hills High School for 4 years and made the CIF Playoff in all 4 years, the first time in that High School history.

In 2020 Alex joined Westcliff University as an Assistant Coach to the Head Coach Joey O'Keefe.
