The NWISL Executive Board met regarding the Spring 2020 NWISL Season in light of the rapidly evolving national, state, and local responses to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic. After discussion, NWISL is immediately implementing the following changes for the Spring Season in the interest of the health and safety of our volunteers, referees, and children.
Schedule Changes
The March 19, 2020 Head Coaches Meeting is Cancelled.
The next regularly scheduled League Meeting on April 7, 2020 at 7:30pm will continue as scheduled for CLUB REPS ONLY.
All materials normally distributable at the Head Coaches Meeting will only be distributed to Club Representatives at the regularly scheduled League Meeting on April 7, 2020. All Club Representatives are expected to attend that Meeting. Further, only Club Representatives will be allowed to attend the League Meeting on April 7, not only as is customary but also to limit the size of the group attending the meeting to approximately or less than 30 people.
SRTA will address any changes to the new referee and referee re-certification classes that have not yet been held. We will share that information when we learn of the same.
As of now,the start of the NWISL Spring 2020 season will be delayed from April 5 to April 18, 2020. We continue to plan on an eight (8) game season before the Spring 2020 Tournament starts on June 6 for all the Divisions. As a result, there will be 12 play dates (Saturday and Sundays) to play those games. All teams will be expected to play as scheduled, i.e. without rescheduling, absent extraordinary need.
Restricted Club and Team Activities
All Clubs and their Teams are prohibited from holding any team practices and other club wide events with the exception of coaches and board meetings at any time their respective school district(s) have cancelled in-school classes (ie, anytime any school district has cancelled classes or is utilizing e-learning) through April 13, 2020.
Alterations to Game Day Procedures
All regular game day operations and procedures will continue once the season starts with the following modifications: All pre-game, center-of-the-field assembly (if any) and the post-game congratulatory exchange continue, without the conventional handshake until further notice.
Availability of Fields
All Clubs should contact, and stay in contact, with the appropriate contact persons regarding continued access to their fields. In the event that any field(s) are closed, please notify the NWISL as soon as possible so efforts can be made to relocate those games to other fields.
Further Changes
The NWISL Executive Board will continue to monitor developments to evaluate if any further changes and / or modifications are helpful, necessary, or required.
